Holidays to St Vincent & The Grenadines

A collection of islands in the Caribbean, St Vincent and the Grenadines offers idyllic island retreats.

Of the 32 islands that make up the chain known as St Vincent and the Grenadines, only nine are inhabited, offering an unspoiled, barefoot and secluded escape from the hustle and bustle of the modern world. Famous as a sailing destination, visitors to St Vincent and the Grenadines will quickly see there is more to the islands than yacht-filled harbours. Explore the markets of the capital Kingstown, spend an afternoon snorkelling alongside turtles off the uninhabited Tobago Cays, or hike through the lush tropical forests, keeping eyes peeled for the rare St Vincent parrot.

More Travel Information

It's hardly surprising that water sports are a major focus for activities in the islands. You can also take a trip on a chartered yacht for some deep-sea fishing. Explore hidden coves and beaches and swim in the tropical waters of the Caribbean. There are many nature trails for hikers, including one to the top of La Soufriere volcano. It is hard work but worth it for the awe-inspiring views. Explore the main island by bus where you'll come across mysterious and beautiful natural gems.
St Vincent has absorbed many culinary influences over the centuries and resorts and hotels serve international cuisine with opportunities to try local favourites. The staple foods include breadfruit and rice, and plantains often make up a side dish or are used as an ingredient in a main course. Fish, especially jack fish, are a major food source. Rum is a popular tipple and you could try out sea moss drink made of sea moss, limes, milk, water and spices.
Nature is king in these islands; stunning natural beauty abounds as lush vegetation cascades to the sea. The St Vincent Botanical Gardens house 20 acres of indigenous tropical trees and plants. You'll find hibiscus, nutmeg, mahogany and palms, and the aviary is home to the rare St Vincent parrots. No luxury holiday here would be complete without visiting some of the many island jewels –Mustique, Bequia and Canouan are amongst those well worth a trip by boat.
