Day 1

Arrive into Phnom Penh

Arrive into Phnom Penh Airport and be transferred to your hotel. Spend the afternoon exploring the city including a visit to the Wat Phnom pagoda, where many monkeys have taken up residence. End your day with a sunset cruise on the Mekong River. Stay overnight in your hotel.

Day 2

Expolore Phnom Penh

Start your day touring the National Museum; built in 1920 the museum houses an extensive collection of sculptures. Next, delve into Cambodia’s darker history with a visit to the genocide museum and a tour of the Killing Fields, a burial site for victims of the Khmer Rouge regime. Return to Phnom Penh to practice your haggling skills at the Russian Markets (closed on public holidays) for jewellery, fabrics and handicrafts.

Please note: the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda can be closed without notice for official ceremonies; if this occurs an alternative visit will be arranged, if possible.

Day 3

Phnom Penh to Kompong Thom

Depart Phnom Penh for Kompong Thom, passing villages and visiting the temples of Sambor Prei Kuk along the way. Explore pre-Angkorian temples before arriving into the market town in the afternoon. Stay overnight at your hotel.

Day 4

Kompong Thom, Kompong Kleang Floating Village and Siem Reap

After breakfast, depart for Kompong Khelang. Here the houses are raised on stilts offering views of the floodplains and rice fields; walk through the village to meet the locals, meet the family who raise crocodiles and enjoy a picnic in the village. After lunch, continue your journey to Siem Reap, checking into your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 5

Siem Reap

Today you’ll head off the beaten track to lesser known temples. Travel through rice fields and villages for a slice of authentic Cambodia, before visiting one of the region’s most ancient sites, the Rolous Group. Marvel at the 9th century Bakong temple and Preah Ko and Lolei, home to a small monastery. In the evening enjoy dinner and a performance of Aspara dance. Stay overnight in your hotel.

Day 6

Angkor Wat, Banteay Srei and Ta Phrom

After breakfast, meet your guide for the day and head off to explore the ancient temples of Angkor Wat built during the 12th century in honour of the Hindu god Vishnu. Spend a few hours viewing the towers and bas reliefs before leaving to see the 10th century sandstone temple, Banteay Srei, known as the Citadel of Women, and the Ta Prohm monastery where tree branches have taken root in the stones, earning it the nickname, Jungle Temple.

For an additional charge, you can enjoy a picnic lunch, followed by a foot massage at one of the lesser known temples of Angkor Wat.

Day 7

Bang Melea, Angkor Thom, Temple of the Leper King

Head into the jungle to visit the 12th century Temple of Bang Melea before touring Angkor Thom, the Great City, and the Bayon temple, famed for its 54 towers featuring 2016 smiling faces of Avalokitesvara. Continue your tour with a visit to the Elephant Terrace and the raised Leper King Terrace, built in the 12th century and featuring beautifully sculpted Apsaras (female spirits of the clouds and water).

Day 8

Banteay Meanchey and Battambang

Depart from Siem Reap, passing rice fields and traditional house. You’ll make stops at a silk farm where you’ll see the steps involved in producing silk from raising silkworms to weaving and dying the fabric, and roadside stone sculptors. After checking into your hotel, tour Battambang tour by tuk-tuk, viewing the French colonial architecture, visiting the provincial museum, seeing an 11th century temple and making rice pancakes with local villages. Stay overnight in your hotel.

Day 9

Discover Battambang

Tour Battambang on two wheels on a bicycle tour - this is a chance to experience the local way of life for Cambodian villagers. Travel past rice paddies and local workshops, help prepare sticky rice and the traditional fish paste ‘Prahok’ and visit the Prasat Banon temple which towers over the surrounding countryside. Return to Battambang for an overnight stay at your hotel.

Day 10

Battambang and Phnom Penh

Depart for Phnom Penh, travelling through the countryside dotted with rice fields, sugar palms and traditional wooden stilted houses. You’ll make stops at Kompong Luong where you’ll board a boat and take to the river, and Kompong Chhnang where you’ll have lunch at a local restaurant. Arrive at Phnom Penh for check in and evening at your leisure.

Day 11

Depart to the UK

Spend the day at leisure until your transfer to Phnom Penh Airport and your flight back to the UK.
