First, you'll uncover the crumbling ruins of Panama La Vieja, a 16th-century settlement that was burned down by marauding pirates. Next, visit the fascinating Miraflores Locks, before taking an aerial tram through humid forest canopy in the Soberanía National Park. The rainforest is populated with toucans, hummingbirds and howler monkeys, all overlooking the famed canal. Wind down with a relaxing dip in the protected waters of Bocas del Toro, surrounded by swaying mangrove trees, turtles and dolphins.

    Day 1

    Transfer from the airport to your hotel

    On arrival you will met by your local guide and transferred to your hotel.

    Full day city tour visiting La Vieja,Casco Antiguo and the Miraflores Locks

    Panama City tour with private transfers and an English speaking guide around the Panama La Vieja Ruins (closed on Mondays), located on the east side of Panama City.
    The first city of Panama was founded in 1519 by Pedrarias Davila. The city became an important centre for the movement of gold arriving from Peru, which was then sent on to Spain. After a major fire and attacks by pirates, La Vieja was abandoned and moved upcoast to the where the Casco Antiguo is  now located.
    Then you will be taken to Casco Antiguo, where you can explore the Old Quarter,   wander around the picturesque seventeenth century buildings, and take in the beauty and enchantment of Panama city. Among the stunning sites are the Metropolitan Cathedral, as well as a number of preserved ruins. Lunch is provided at a local restaurant
    The day ends with a visit to the Miraflores Locks, which stand at the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal. They link the Pacific with the Miraflores Lake, raising and lowering ships 54ft/16.5m in two impressive steps. These locks are the easiest to reach from Panama City and the best equipped to handle visitors. The new Visitor Centre contains a four-floor museum, an observation deck, a theatre showing documentaries in English and Spanish, and a restaurant with stunning views of this engineering marvel.

    Visit the Gamboa Aerial Tram

    The aerial tram ride traverses a mile long tract of humid forest that lies within the Gamboa Resort’s boundaries. See the forest canopy from above, and catch the chance to encounter exotic birds and hear howler monkeys.
    The tram ascends 280ft over half a mile and ends atop a hill. From here is a short optional walk to the observation tower and a further optional 100ft climb up a wheelchair accessible inclined ramp to a viewing platform with spectacular views over the forest canopy. The observation tower gives amazing views of Gamboa, the Canal and the Chagres River, as well as the surrounding forested areas of Soberania National Park.
    Deep in the heart of the Panamanian rainforest lays the completely unique Gamboa Rainforest Resort.     Visit the tribes people of Panama

    Embera Tribe with private transfers and English speaking guide.
    A one hour road trip followed and 30 minutes in a motor pirogue (authentic motor boat will lead you to the heart of the Embera tribe.. Their lives are based on fishing, hunting, and farming. The cocobolo, a strong type of tropical wood sculpted by the Indians will be presented to you in the form of an animal or a scene from daily life. The famous Tagua, the fruit of a type of palm tree, is knitted using its fibres and then dyed with natural colourings to create beautiful jewellery and handy crafts.
    This will be a day of simple pleasures. You will watch as the Indians dance under a broad Rancho, elevated over columns to provide shelter from wild animals. Cooking also takes place at the ranch. For lunch you will be served fresh river fish accompanied by patacones in banana leaves, which keep the food warm. The Emberas’ relationship with tourists has only recently been established and its welcome is truly a memorable unique opportunity.

    Coffee Plantation Scenery
