Discover Jordan’s ancient past and explore the historic sites of Jerusalem on this incredible tour.

Begin this eight day tour in Jordan’s capital city before travelling along the King’s Highway, stopping to see mosaic maps and take in incredible vistas. Spend a full day exploring Petra before crossing the border and visiting biblical sites. Return to Jordan to float in the Dead Sea and tour Amman before heading back home.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival into Amman

Fly into Jordan’s modern capital city, Amman and be met by a representative before transferring to your hotel. Once checked in the day is yours to spend however you wish, whether relaxing in your hotel room or heading out into the city to explore a little.

Day 2

Madaba - Mount Nebo - Kerak - Petra

Time to hit the road! Drive away from the city along the King’s Highway, an ancient road that once linked biblical cities. As you travel along this 2,000 year old stretch of road you’ll stop at a number of historic sites – first up is Madaba, famed for housing a 6th century mosaic map of the Holy Land. Carry on until you get to Mount Nebo (said to be the burial site of Moses), travelling to the top for stunning vistas. The last stop of the day is the Crusader-era church in Kerak – end the journey in Petra where you’ll stay overnight before your tour the following day.

Day 3

Petra - Amman

Sitting high on many people’s travel ‘wish list’ the Red Rose City of Petra is one of the world’s most incredibly archaeological sites. Carved directly into the rose-coloured sandstone, this UNESCO World Heritage Site was built by the Nabatean people over 2,000 years ago. You’ll have the expertise of a professional guide throughout the day, from your walk through the narrow Siq (or gorge) to the impressive Treasury and the marvels beyond. Return to Amman at the end of the day for an overnight stay.

Day 4

Amman – Sheikh Hussein – Jerusalem

Today you cross the border from Jordan into Israel heading to Jerusalem. Along the way you’ll stop at historic and biblical sites including the Mount of Olives and Dominus Flevit Church before descending to the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus is said to have spent the night before his arrest. Travel on to Bethlehem where you’ll have the chance to visit the Church of the Nativity and Saint Jerome’s Cave, where the bible was translated before spending the night in Jerusalem.

Day 5

Jerusalem – Sheikh Hussein – Amman

Before you head back to Amman, explore some of Jerusalem’s most important biblical sites. First up is Mount Zion, the highest point in Old Jerusalem and the site where the Last Supper is said to have taken place. Next, head to the Western Wall a holy site for Jews and a place where prayers and services are held. Continue out of Jerusalem to the village of Ein Karem, the birthplace of Saint John the Baptist, and the Church of the Visitation. Cross the border at Sheikh Hussein back into Jordan and end the day in Amman.

Day 6

Amman City Tour - Desert Castles

Start the day with a city tour of Amman, visiting the Temple of Hercules, impressive Byzantines churches and the ancient Roman Theatre, today used to host cultural events. In the afternoon drive out to the Desert Castles - here you’ll find frescos, mosaics, carvings and illustrations, all examples of early Islamic art and architecture.

Day 7

Amman - Jerash - Dead Sea - Amman

Hidden beneath the sands for thousands of years, the ancient city of Jerash is one of the best preserved sites of Roman architecture – outside of Italy that is! Be sure to wear sturdy shoes as you walk along colonnaded streets, hilltop temples and city walls dotted with spikes and gates. Today’s tour continues with a trip to the lowest point on earth, the Dead Sea. You’ll have time to float in the salty, therapeutic waters before heading back for one final night in Amman.

Day 8

Return to the UK

Your journey through Jordan comes to an end as you check out of your hotel and transfer to Amman’s International Airport in time for your return flight back to the UK.
