Tour highlights

    • Rugged coast and pristine forest in Acadia National Park
    • Picture perfect rural villages in Vermont
    • Sweeping beaches and whale watching at Cape Cod
    • Mountain towns to maritime heritage

Day 1

UK to Boston

Arrive into historic Boston. This remarkably compact city boasts some of America’s oldest buildings, scenic river walks, great shopping and fantastic restaurants.

Day 2

After a leisurely breakfast at one of the many local cafés head out for some sightseeing. First time visitors should walk the Freedom Trail, a 2.5 mile route marked out in bricks that links Boston Common with the USS Constitution via 14 other historic sites such as the Benjamin Franklin statue and Paul Revere’s house.

Day 3

Boston to Bar Harbor

Collect your car and depart Boston. As you journey north the roads become quieter and the towns more sparse, with fishing villages dotting the coast. Follow Route 1 into Maine as it hugs the coast until you get to Mount Desert Island, home to quaint Bar Harbor and the adjacent Acadia National Park.

Day 4

Bar Harbor

Today delve deep into Acadia National Park. The azure Atlantic meets a rocky granite coast and dense pine forests spill onto the cliffs in an immensely photogenic mixture of land, sea and woodland. Hike the historic carriage roads which take you to remote waterfalls and keep an eye out for moose and the elusive black bear.

Day 5

Bar Harbor to Jackson

Head back onto the mainland and continue toward New England’s interior. Forest and lakes abound as you wind your way into the mountains of New Hampshire and the White Mountain National Forest.  As you enter the town of Jackson, arrive via the wonderful ‘covered bridge’ - a uniquely New England experience.

Day 6

Visit Jackson and its neighbouring towns for the picture-perfect American village. White steepled churches surrounded by rolling farmland and nearby mountains covered in woodland. If you are looking for adventure there are plenty of activities in the great outdoors like hiking and horse riding.

Day 7

Jackson to Stowe

Depart the White Mountain National Forest and cross the border into Vermont, known as The Green Mountain State. This sparsely populated state is known for its wild beauty and array of outdoor activities and nowhere are these traits more evident than in the area around the picturesque mountain town of Stowe.

Day 8

Throughout the summer visitors to Stowe are greeted by verdant mountains, perfect for trekking and mountain biking.   Why not try out dog-carting zip lining as well?  If you want to stay a little closer to the hotel there are plenty of shops in which to pick up some souvenirs and cafés from which to watch the world go by.  There is also a thriving arts scene in Stowe so check out the local museums and galleries.

Day 9

Stowe to Lenox

Take the scenic journey south, departing Vermont for Massachusetts.  Lenox is a historic and affluent town in the Berkshire Hills, famous as the summer home for the Boston Symphony Orchestra and its array of grand, historic mansions. Join a walking tour to discover some of the historic secrets in this gentle and welcoming town.

Day 10

Lenox to Mystic

Continuing south you will arrive at the Connecticut coast. The town of Mystic was first settled in 1654 and has remained an important maritime hub ever since. The historic seaport offers visitors a glimpse back in time while still serving as a base for local fishermen as well as wealthy New Yorkers who sail this beautiful coast.

Day 11

Mystic to Providence

Follow the scenic Route 1 around the coast and into the city of Providence where you will discover a glorious mixture of New England’s history and east coast American sophistication. Enjoy gourmet cuisine and fantastic live music as well as well-preserved historic architecture and museums charting the city’s history. Twice a month through the spring to autumn the city hosts the incredible WaterFire display of burning bonfires floating on the city’s 3 rivers, with music and performers lining the sidewalks.

Days 12-13

Providence to Hyannis

Leave the city behind and head toward the idyllic shores of Cape Cod.  Base yourself in scenic Hyannis, at the mid-point of the cape, to explore sweeping beaches, rolling fruit farms and pretty towns.  Catch a ferry out to the island of Martha’s Vineyard or head to Provincetown to board a whale watching trip.

Day 14
