Holidays to Losinj

Studded in the Northern Adriatic Sea, Losinj is a long slither of an island that stretches for 20 miles, blessing it with an extensive coastline lapped by dazzling blue seas. Without an airport (it’s a ferry transfer from the mainland, or chartered flight from Zagreb), Losinj has stayed off the tourist map, but sunseekers are starting to notice this relatively undiscovered haven of an island. There are picturesque coves, an interior rich with pine forests, and laidback port towns filled with charming Venetian architecture, but the big draw is that most visitors get all of this virtually to themselves.

Losinj upholds its reputation for vitality and wellness with wild plants and herbs growing across its long landmass, a place where you can head out on hiking and biking trails to feel a deep connection with nature; and be rewarded with beautiful views while you’re at it. What’s more, Bottlenose Dolphins and Loggerhead Turtles dwell in Losinj’s seas, so you can enjoy a side of wildlife-watching with your beach lounging too. Meanwhile those who prefer something more urban can go for strolls in the pretty waterfront towns of Veli Lošinj and Mali Lošinj, admiring ornate Baroque architecture before stopping for a cup of coffee by the harbour, taking it all in and rubbing shoulders with the locals – and maybe one or two other visitors also ‘in-the-know’.
