Located off the coast of West Africa Tenerife is the largest of Spain's Canary Islands and is one of the country's most popular year round tourist destinations. A volcanic island, Tenerife's landscapes are some of the most beautiful to behold, as naturally rugged outcrops give way to golden sands or forested hillsides, and has an array of vibrant tourist resorts. The resorts of Santa Cruz, Playa de las Americas, and Los Cristianos are some of the better known of the island's tourist hotspots, and you'll find plenty to do at each, including shopping, fine dining, and exploration.
Away from the tourist scene Tenerife has so much to offer the more adventurous traveller. The Anaga Mountains, for example, will tempt you with their breathtaking beauty, Masca is nestled within a deep ravine, and the pyramids at Guimar are waiting to tell you their story. Come and experience the real Tenerife.
Tenerife is famous for its excellent golf but if that’s not your things this varied island has so much to offer. From city Segway tours to hiking a volcano in the Teide National Park you will never get bored. Watersports are in abundance and if you aren’t a proficient diver but still want to explore the depths you could try an underwater scooter. If that all tires you out then of course that beach is never far away!
Tenerife Food & Drink
Being a very fertile island it is no surprise that Tenerife has a strong culinary tradition mostly based around grilled meat or fish. This is often accompanied by the traditional papas arrugadas con mojo - Spanish wrinkled potatoes with traditional Canarian sauce - which is definitely worth a try. For those with a sweet tooth you should try bienmesabe a sugary dessert made from honey, almond cream and rum, and while on the point of rum try the local tipple ron miel which is a sweet honey rum perfect for after a meal.
Although Tenerife is know for its wonderful beaches, there are plenty of things to see if you can drag yourselves away from the golden sand: indulge your inner child at Siam Park, Tenerife’s largest water park or take a wander around Costa Adeje Market to pick up souvenirs. Spend some time in historic La Laguna, widely considered to be Tenerife’s most beautiful town or get up close and personal with the animal kingdom at the island’s Zoo Loro Parque.
