Start in Chile's capital Santiago where you visit the Concha y Toro winery in the Maipo Valley. From Santiago fly south to the island of Chiloe home to ancient wooden churches and a unique way of life. After Chiloe travel to Puerto Varas stopping off to admire the Petrohue Falls in the shadow of the Osorno volcano. Journey from Chile to Argentina by a series of boat and road transfers on this regions famous lake crossing. From Bariloche drive the glorious 7 lakes road to the alpine town of San Martin de Los Andes. Finish your trip in the bustling and lively city of Buenos Aires, before heading back to the UK.

Concha & Toro vineyard tour

Departure from hotel to the Maipo Valley, a region in central Chile better known as the wine making valley that features the Concha y Toro winery, the country’s most important exporter of wine. Concha y Toro welcomes visitors to share its secrets in the wine making process and exporting activities. The tour includes a walk through the beautifully landscaped colonial grounds of the company founded in 1883. Today it’s considered one of the 10 most important in the world of its kind. We’ll visit the cellars, the vineyards (some of them started by its founder, don Melchor Concha y Toro) and end with a wine tasting experience at the wine bar before heading back to the hotel.

Day 4

Half Day Tour of Castro and Dalcahue - 'Churches and Shipyards'

This tour starts out with a visit of the city of Castro to explore typical areas, including the farmer’s fair, palafittes (traditional wooden stilt houses built over the water), museums, churches and the crafts market. Next comes Tey Church, a construction that was moved from its original place to its present site using the curious Chiloe tradition of the “Minga de Tiradura de Iglesia”, where members of the community helped by their animals, drag houses and churches from one place to other. The following stop is at the Dalcahue village (boat place) notorious for its traditional shipyards, its UNESCO World Heritage Site Church, the variety of designs of the houses’ wood shingles, the crafts fair and finally, its attractive eateries serving Chiloe’s traditional and varied gastronomy.

Petrohue Falls excursion

The tour sets out bordering the southern shore of Lake Llanquihue, taking the route towards Petrohue to visit the Petrohué River falls in the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park. Once admitted to the park, a gentle hike along the paths leads to the impressive Petrohué falls where the water cascades over volcanic lava that poured down from the Osorno Volcano. The water of the lake is usually clear with a bluish hue. It’s a great place to take pictures and enjoy the surroundings. The tour continues to Lake Todos los Santos or Esmeralda Lake, surrounded by steep hills with a few small plains from where three snow-capped mountains are viewed: Osorno Volcano to the west, Puntiagudo Volcano to the north and Tronador volcano to the east. The forest covering the hillsides is the Valdivian Temperate Rain Forest of the Andean kind. There will be time to admire the scenery before returning to the hotel.

Lake Crossing to Argentina

Departure from Puerto Varas on a 50 km drive to Ensenada and Petrohue, bordering Llanquihue Lake. On the way, some imposing views of the Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes dominate the landscape. The route continues to the pretty ecological village of Peulla sailing across the Todos los Santos Lake. Weather permitting, lovely views of the Osorno and Puntiagudo Volcanos and Mount Tronador will surprise travellers. Arrival to Peulla, a nature lovers’ paradise. Lunch (not included). To start out on the Andean Crossing, passengers board a bus heading to Puerto Frias after going through customs on the Chilean side, crossing the Andes Mountain Range at 976 meters above sea level. After reaching Puerto Frias, a cruise on Felix Frias Lake follows, leading to Puerto Alegre. From here, a bus ride to Puerto Blest comes next. The last sailing experience of the tour will be on Nahuel Huapi Lake to get to Puerto Pañuelo. Here, the last leg of the journey leads to Bariloche.

Tour of San Martin de los Andes via 7 Lakes Road

This tour runs through the national parks of Nahuel Huapi and Lanin leaving from Bariloche by national route 237 towards the north and touring the extreme eastern end of lake Nahuel Huapi up to Río Limay. The trajectory continues along national route 231, that borders the lake on the northern side, passing by the Peninsula Huemul and Puerto Manzano, until arriving at Villa La Angostura. Here make a short stop to see the beautiful villa surrounded by dense woods and framed by imposing snowy peaks. The itinerary continues toward the Lakes Correntoso, Espejo, Escondido, Falkner, Villarino, Machonico and Lacar, on the banks of which is located the city of San Martín de los Andes. There will be time for lunch, shopping and touring the city. The return passes through Paso Córdoba at 1200 meters above sea level from where the typical Patagonian landscape can be appreciated. From here arrive at Bariloche finishing the tour and return to your hotel.
