Day 2: Muscat City Tour

Muscat

Today you’ll embark on a half day city tour of Muscat, giving you the opportunity to tick off many of the capital’s top attractions. You’ll start off with visits to both the stunning Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque (don’t forget to bring a scarf to cover your head!) and privately owned Bait Al Zubair Museum then cruise along the Corniche stopping at two of the best souks: the fish market and Mattrah souk. As the morning progresses there’s time to snap photos of the Al Alam Palace, the official palace of Oman’s royal family, as well as the 16th forts Mirani and Jalali. Once your tour is completed you’ll be returned to your hotel to spend the rest of the day as you wish.

Day 3: Muscat - Wadi Bani Auf - Al Hamra

Muscat - Wadi Bani Auf - Al Hamra

It’s time to leave the coast behind as you head to cooler climates, driving through date palms and natural springs to arrive at the fort in Nakhal – built in the 1830s this is well preserved with its round tower and arched doorways. Carry on along the winding, steep roads that lead through the mountains towards Wadi Bani Auf, making a stop at the village of Bilad Sayt set on the slopes of the Al Hajar Mountains and surrounded by date palms. The road eventually continues on to Al Hamra, where you’ll spend the night.

Al Hamra - Nizwa - Wahiba Sands

A short drive this morning brings you to ancient city of Nizwa, where you’ll explore the Round Tower and Fort – the views from the top are exceptional – as well as the Nizwa Souk where you can pick up souvenirs to take home. Your journey through the mountains continues to the pretty village of Birkat Al Mauz where you can stretch your legs with a walk through date plantations, followed by a stop at Wadi Al Madeen. Then it’s back on the winding road through Omans’ ‘green jewel’ famed for its fruit orchards and picture-perfect villages – on the other side of the mountains you’ll carry on to Wahiba Sands with its striking red dunes. Here you’ll spend a night at a luxury desert camp for your very own glamping experience.

INCLUDES : Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Al Hamra - Nizwa - Wahiba Sands

Day 5: Wahiba Sands - Wadi Bani Khalid - Ras Al Ji

As you leave your desert camp behind you’ll be driven up and down over the dunes a thrilling – and sometimes hair-raising – experience! Then it’s time to slow things down with a visit to Wadi Bani Khalid, one of the best-known wadis in Oman, surrounded by date palms and with many pools filled with emerald waters, making for a great place to cool off. Then get back on the road again heading towards Ras Al Jinz where you’ll spend the evening and – if you’re visiting at the right time of year – be taken to the beach with an expert guide to spot nesting turtles.

INCLUDES : Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6: Ras Al Jinz - Sur - Muscat

Ras Al Jinz - Sur - Muscat

Travel along the coast from Ras Al Jinz to the port city of Sur, where the traditional of building wooden dhows continues to this day. Here you’ll wander round one of the dhow factories, stop off at the fish jetty, visit the Sanseela Fort and even have time for a swim in at Fins Beach, one of many in the region. As the day continues you’ll have a further two opportunities to stretch your legs and go for a dip (if you feel like it!) at the Bimah Sinkhole and Wadi Arbayeen, returning to Muscat early evening.
