Oman Discovery

  • Explore the sights of Muscat
  • Visit a Bedouin family in Wahiba Sands
  • Spot nesting turtles (seasonal)
  • Cool off in the waters of the Bimah Sinkhole

This four-night tour of Oman is a great introduction to the country’s history, culture and scenery.

While this tailor-made itinerary to Oman is short and sweet, it’s packed full with plenty of ‘must-see’ sights and activities. Over five days you’ll visit mosques and forts, head into the desert, drive along the coast – keep your eyes peeled for sharks! – and relax beneath the shade of date palms beside one of the country’s wadis. If you would like to extend your stay in Oman – or are thinking about combining your trip with a second destination – please speak to our travel experts.

Day 2: Muscat - Wahiba Sands

Muscat - Wahiba Sands

This morning’s sightseeing gives you an insight into Oman’s history and culture. First stop: the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque where you’ll find the world’s second largest hand-loomed carpet and the glittering central chandelier composed of thousands of crystals. Your second stop – and the last in Muscat – is the privately owned Bait Al Zubair Museum housing a collection of traditional artefacts from the region. Then it’s time to leave the city behind and head into the rust-red dunes of Wahiba Sands where you’ll have the chance to meet a Bedouin family and be welcomed warmly into their home. The day ends by checking into your desert camp.

INCLUDES : Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Wahiba - Wadi Bani Khalid - Sur

Wahiba - Wadi Bani Khalid - Sur

Get your heart racing as you drive up and down the golden sands on a thrilling ‘dune bashing’ experience. Once you’ve had time to get your heart rate back to normal you’ll carry on to the oasis-like Wadi Bani Khalid well-known for its pools of green-blue waters fringed by date palms and back dropped by cliff faces – this is one of our top places to go for a leisurely swim. The final destination for today is Ras Al Jinz on the eastern coast, home to a turtle reserve; this evening you’ll be taken on a guided walk to the beach where you have the chance to spot nesting turtles depending on the time of year.

INCLUDES : Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Sur - Muscat

Sur - Muscat

Further along the coast is Sur, a port city with a strong maritime history where shipyards still build traditional wooden dhows – as part of your visit here you’ll have the opportunity to walk around one of these factories, as well as making a stop at the fish jetty and the Sanseela Fort. If you feel like it there’s time for a swim at Fins Beach, one of many pretty beaches in the area, before continuing your journey on to Bimah Sinkhole, a deep limestone crater where you can descend to the bottom and swim in the emerald waters. Your final stop before returning to Muscat is Wadi Arbayeen, which is surrounded by date palms and provides yet another place for a cooling dip.

INCLUDES : Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
