Cuban cuisine is based mainly on chicken, pork, beans and rice, and is a blend of African,Caribbean, Spanish and Taíno influences. The national dish is ropa vieja, which is shredded beef or lamb cooked slowly with garlic, green peppers, onions and tomatoes. One of the best ways to experience authentic Cuban cuisine, is at paladars - private residences serving home-cooked food - which are common across the country. When it comes to drinks, rum is inevitably where it is at.
